There were shades of blue and sounds of JSU all throughout the Capitol as dozens of Jackson State enthusiast turned out in support of JSU Day at the Capitol. This is an opportunity for leaders of the university to discuss legislative priorities with Mississippi lawmakers. It also a time to celebrate all things JSU.
A highlight of the day; Jackson State University 2022 SWAC Championship teams and coaches were recognized with resolutions from lawmakers: including football, women’s soccer, women’s tennis, and men’s cross country. JSU Acting President Elaine Hayes Anthony received the resolutions on behalf of the University. "It feels fantastic to be recognized for doing some good and for your own school. I’m an alum of Jackson State. I love thee I love.", said Anthony.
The student athletes weren’t just recognized for their athletic achievement. JSU Athletics posted the highest graduation success Rate in the SWAC, and achieved a combined team GPA of 3.1 during the 2022 season.
"It’s about the athletics and winning but it’s also about scholarship. I think that data shows that. So we’re gonna keep moving in that direction.", Anthony said.
