JSU's Acting President Holds First News Conference

Newly Appointed Acting Jackson State President Elyane  Hayes-Anthony held her first news conference Monday morning. She says JSU students will be the top priority of her administration. Anthony says that includes meeting with students, and listening to them to get their input and feedback. She also wants to increase enrollment, enhance the JSU brand and work closely with athletics. President Anthony says she wants to have meaningful communication with more than the students of JSU. She wants to meet with faculty, staff and the community.

Anthony is a native of Jackson and received two degrees from Jackson State University. She is currently the Chair of the JSU Department of Journalism and Media Studies. She was appointed acting President by IHL Thursday, after the college board put PresidentThomas Hudson on administrative leave with pay while meeting in executive session. The board has not commented on why Hudson was put on leave. President Anthony says she doesn’t know how long her acting appointment will last, but says she is ready to serve as long as needed.
